On the Mend and Pinning

via

Once I began feeling well enough to sit up yesterday, I immediately began some passive pinterest surfing.  Without much energy, I simply scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and scrolled until something caught my eye.  Below are the results of my germ-induced pinning.

I was definitely being drawn to soft, calm rooms that had pops of energy and fun in the form of pillows, accessories, and textures. Now that I've migrated from the bed to the couch, I find myself looking around my living room and bedroom finding what I can do to recreate the sense of these inspirational pinterest photos.

Which one is your favorite? I just scrolled through them all again and couldn't choose my favorite...though there are many accessories in each I'd love to get my hands on!

Shut the Front Door

I've always believed that windows are the most beautiful part of a home but lately I've been drawn to front doors. It began this summer when red doors started popping up in neighborhoods and on the blog-o-sphere and now a cheerful yellow can be seen welcoming visitors into many homes.  This summer I began keeping an eye out for beautiful doors and there are plenty to swoon over while driving around town and even more to make you weak in the knees on pinterest.

Red is a nice change from black or brown yet still feels traditional - perfect for the house that needs a boost of color while maintaining the traditional architecture.

Orange.  So modern, so bright, so unexpected...but surprisingly I'm loving this door!

via
I really like this light buttery yellow.  It brightens up the porch and creates a very welcoming mood without being too bold.

A green door with gray siding? Perfection!

Everyone knows this robins egg blue is my favorite color and I am head over heels in love with this front door.  So in love, in fact, that if it were in my neighborhood, I'd probably sit on the front steps every day.

Dark blue feels the same as a red door to me - pretty, elegant, traditional.

I've never seen a purple door in real life, but this plum color is luxurious and beautiful.

What a sweet, bold statement - a pink door! Paired with the tree it creates the perfect scene.

So, what color would you choose to paint your front door? Are you bold enough to go with orange? Are you loving the sunshiny yellow? Would your little girl love you forever if you chose pink?  I personally love the green and the pale blue doors.

Green with Envy

via

In the past couple days I've become obsessed with green couches. Believe me - obsessed.

via

I love the burst of boldness, yet in a soft, watercolor kind of way.

via

Before this obsessive love affair began I believed couches should be neutral. Blank canvases, if you will, to be accessorized with throw pillows and a soft blanket.

via

Now I find myself wondering why the couch can't be the main accessory in the larger living room.  Throw pillows are fabulous, but they are like a ring...pretty but not quite enough to make a large statement.

via

Not too long ago I shared that I really wanted to do something about the dark tan slip cover I had made for my large couch.  I think I've decided I need a green couch. In fact, let me rephrase that: I am wild with desire for a green couch. I simply need to decide on a shade.

So, what do you think about the green couch?

Sunflower Inspiration

My mother and I are spending the day exploring the beauty that is North Carolina. We'll be taking a walk through some pretty neighborhoods, visiting some gardens, and soaking in the wonderful flowers that fill every piece of space.

It tends to be a habit for me to fall in love with a location based on it's natural beauty. I snapped this picture to remind me of a cute little Connecticut town I visited a few summers ago.  Isn't it amazing how nature's color pallet is practically perfect? I can picture a sun room decorated in this color scheme.

Here are some other nature-inspired color schemes I found.

Decorating with Yellow

I've noticed that I've been in a color-rut lately. I'm drawn to the same colors time and time again (grays, blues, greens) and, while I enjoy seeing splashes of different colors in others' decorating, I never consider it for my life.  Today I'm looking at how others use splashes of yellow to liven up their homes.

Country Living

I love how this piece of furniture pops with the white walls and accessories...but it's not too showy and flashy.

Martha Stewart

The pops of yellow in this living room don't overpower the room, but do add enough sunshine to make you smile.  I could see myself decorating with a yellow mirror and throw pillow.

Gap Interiors

I also need to remember that not all yellows have to be in-your-face-yellows. The throw pillows and lamp are a nice buttery yellow and bring warmth.

Pillow Throw Decor

This is a nice baby step for me. It includes the blue and green hues of my living room while also introducing some yellow. I'm in love with it.

>Design 360

A little bolder than I'd typically go for, but hey, if you're going yellow, may as well go all out.

Delilah Devine

I'm so in love with these cute geese.  I'd take them in any color, really...MUST STAY AWAY from gray, green, and blue, though!

Are any of you in a color rut? What are some tricks you've done to introduce some new spice and hues to your home? I think I'm going to buy some yellow paint and challenge myself to make some art or paint a frame.  Wish me luck!
